Pistons Call Out Heat After Proposing 'Bad Boys' As Potential Nickname for Giannis-Bam Duo

As the Miami Heat try to figure out a nickname for their new star duo of Bam Adebayo and Giannis Antetokounmpo, one of the options they gave fans to vote on caught the attention of the Detroit Pistons.

After the Heat listed "Bad Boys" as one of the nicknames, the Pistons responded to remind them that is already taken.

The Bad Boy Pistons are one of the most iconic groups in NBA history. Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, Dennis Rodman and Bill Laimbeer formed one of the great four-man units of all-time.

That group also led the Pistons to back-to-back titles in 1988-89 and 1989-90. Thomas, Dumars and Rodman are all in the Basketball Hall of Fame.

Based on that pedigree alone, the Heat trying to take bad boys should be completely off limits. There is a connection because the Bad Boys film franchise starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence is set in Miami and they portray cops on the Miami Police Department.

Still, though, it's hard to use that as enough of a justification to take the bad boys moniker that has been associated with another NBA franchise for nearly 40 years at this point.

It would also have the potential to backfire on the Heat because we have no idea what the pairing of Adebayo and Antetokounmpo will look like, nor how successful they will be, so you are just inviting some negative bad boys puns if it doesn't work out well for the organization.
