Brandon Aiyuk, Tyreek Hill's Top NFL Landing Spots After Stefon Diggs Signs Commanders Contract

Veteran wide receivers still seeking a new contract might need to look for a new team outside of Washington, D.C.

The Washington Commanders are signing wide receiver Stefon Diggs, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

The Commanders adding Diggs as a WR2 alongside Terry McLaurin makes the team less of a likely landing spot for other veteran options including Tyreek Hill and Brandon Aiyuk.

The best remaining landing spots for Hill could include the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens.

Should Aiyuk secure a release from the San Francisco 49ers, clubs including the Chiefs and Miami Dolphins could be potential fits.

Here's a closer look at potential landing spots for both receivers now that Diggs is headed to D.C.

Tyreek Hill

Hill led the NFL in receiving yards in 2023, but took a step back in 2024 before injuries cut short his most recent season.

The former Miami Dolphins wideout suffered a severe leg injury last September that ended his 2025 campaign and threatened his availability for 2026. He became a free agent when he was released by the Dolphins in February.

As of late July, Hill said on social media he was still working on getting power back in his left leg.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported in late July multiple teams were "keeping tabs" on Hill despite his injury status, and that the veteran wideout remained "very fond" of the Chiefs.

The Chiefs could be in need of some additional wide receiver depth after missing out on signing Minnesota Vikings wideout Jauan Jennings earlier this offseason.

That need has been further highlighted by training camp injuries suffered by Xavier Worthy and Cyrus Allen.

Hill has also previously named Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson as one of his top five signal-callers in the league.

The Ravens' wide receiver depth chart is in flux behind Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman, so Hill could theoretically step up as another top target for Jackson next season.

Hill has not yet confirmed his target return timeline, so where he ultimately signs his next contract could depend on which team is most in need at the position by the time he is healthy enough to return.

Aiyuk posted two 1,000-yard receiving campaigns for the 49ers in 2022 and 2023. He hasn't played since 2024 due to injuries and an ongoing dispute over the contract keeping him in San Francisco through 2028.

The news that Diggs is signing with the Commanders may come as a disappointment to Aiyuk, who has repeatedly stated on social media he wants to be released from his contract so he can play for Washington.

Aiyuk posted a photo of himself wearing a Commanders hat as recently as the day before Diggs' signing.

The Athletic's Matt Barrows and Nicki Jhabvala reported in April the Commanders were likely to consider singing Aiyuk should he be released, but later added Aiyuk may have hurt his chances through social media posts including an apparent jab at quarterback Jayden Daniels.

Although Aiyuk might not have a path forward with the Niners or Commanders, there could be teams willing to give him a chance in light of their need for wide receiving depth.

One such team is the Chiefs, who are working Rashee Rice back from an offseason knee procedure while trying to set Patrick Mahomes for success amid his return from his own knee injury.

Another potential option could be the Miami Dolphins, where Malik Washington, Jalen Tolbert and Tutu Atwell lead one of the thinnest wide receiver depth charts in the league. Those three wideouts combined for just over 700 receiving yards last season.

Those positional needs could lead to the Dolphins or Chiefs potentially taking a swing on Aiyuk should the Niners release him from his contract in the near future.
