LeBron 'Ring Chasing' Narrative Called Out by Rich Paul in New Video After 76ers Contract

Rich Paul doesn't have time for anyone trying to criticize LeBron James for chasing a championship after his decision to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers.

On the latest episode of the Game Over podcast with Max Kellerman, Paul dismissed the notion that James is "ring chasing" by explaining he accepted a minimum contract because "he wants to win."

The narrative of James being a ring chaser dates back to the original Decision in 2010 when he teamed up with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh on the Miami Heat.

Part of it likely stems from the notion that players like Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, who James is frequently compared to, are known for their ties to one single NBA franchise and had great players join them.

Jordan technically spent his final two NBA seasons playing for the Washington Wizards, but all anyone remembers is his 13-year run with the Chicago Bulls that produced six championships.

Bryant spent his entire 20-season NBA career with the Los Angeles Lakers and won five titles.

James is probably most associated with the Cleveland Cavaliers because he spent 11 seasons with the club, but he won championships with three different organizations.

Ring chasing is an argument that doesn't make sense because if we assume the objective for every athlete in any sport is winning, of course they would want to be on a team that allows them to accomplish the goal.

This is especially true for someone like James, whose career has been so scrutinized that he has had to defend his teams having a 4-6 record in the NBA Finals rather than celebrated for being one four players in NBA history to reach the Finals at least 10 times.

Of the teams James was reportedly considering, including the Cavs and Miami Heat, the 76ers do present the most tantalizing opportunity to compete for a title with him joining a roster that features Jaylen Brown, Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid and VJ Edgecombe.

As talented as that group is on paper, it doesn't guarantee the Sixers anything. They still have to go out and win games, make the playoffs then get through what will likely be a gauntlet to capture a championship.
