Jeremy Sochan Finds New Landing Spot, Reportedly Signs Contract After Winning NBA Title with Knicks

The Portland Trail Blazers have signed free agent forward Jeremy Sochan to a one-year deal, per ESPN's Shams Charania.

Sochan has played four NBA seasons. He began his career with the San Antonio Spurs, who selected the ex-Baylor Bear with the ninth overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft.

San Antonio waived Sochan on Feb. 11, but he signed with the New York Knicks two days later and finished the season with the 2025-26 NBA champions.

Over his first three seasons, Sochan averaged 11.4 points on 46.8 percent shooting, 6.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 27.3 minutes per game.

However, Sochan fell out of the rotation last season before he got waived. Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson offered praise for the 23-year-old a day before the news broke.

"He's been asked to be the role of defensive disruptor and to be a versatile piece offensively for us, and nothing has changed in that regard," Johnson said, per ESPN's Michael C. Wright.

"I know Jeremy is wanting to play more, like many of the people that aren't playing as much and I'm glad that he wants that. That's the competitive mindset that you have to have to be successful in this league."

"As of right now, he has not been in the rotation and that's a decision that I've made. I expect Jeremy to continue to come to work every day, bring your professionalism and be a great teammate. He's done exactly that, and that's what you have to do in his league. Sometimes your opportunities don't always come from where you think they'll come or when you think they'll come."

Sochan didn't play much with the Knicks either, averaging 6.7 minutes per game in the regular season.

Now he gets a chance to carve out time in the Blazers' rotation. Portland has some big changes ahead in 2026-27 with Damian Lillard returning from a torn Achilles that cost him in 2025-26 and Ja Morant now aboard following a trade with the Memphis Grizzlies.

Portland is certainly on the rise, going 42-40 last season and earning the seventh seed in the Western Conference playoffs after a 36-46 mark the year before. Now Sochan is aboard as Portland looks to take another step.
