Russell Westbrook Ripped by NBA Scout, 'I Wouldn't Touch Him in a Million Years' amid Free Agency

One NBA scout told Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel that he wouldn't touch free agent guard Russell Westbrook "in a million years."

The scout made the remarks amid providing remarks about veteran players the Heat could hypothetically add to the team.

"I wouldn't touch him in a million years," the scout said. "You can't rely on him in terms of what's going to happen. Yeah, he'll have, you know, great games. Sure. But he can't shoot. He plays his own way. He's not going to fit into a system. He doesn't really defend.

"I mean, yeah, he'll put up some numbers and he'll win you some games. In terms of truly building a winning team, you don't get him on your team."

Westbrook played the first 11 seasons of his NBA career (2008-2019). He made eight All-NBA teams (including two First Teams) and won the NBA MVP award in 2016-17. During that time, Westbrook averaged 23.0 points, 8.4 assists and 7.0 rebounds per game. Because of that stint, Westbrook is a member of the NBA's 75th Anniversary Team and will be heading to the Basketball Hall of Fame someday.

His NBA time since then has been up-and-down with six different teams. He's still put up numbers and did so last year, averaging 15.2 points, 6.7 assists and 5.4 rebounds in 29.0 minutes per game for the Sacramento Kings.

As of now, Westbrook still remains without a team, but one can surmise he'll find one in time for his 19th NBA campaign. He signed a one-year deal with the Kings last October, just a week before the season. It's conceivable Westbrook's next stop won't be known until the fall, but for now, he remains a free agent.
