NBA Rumors Reveal D'Angelo Russell Set to be Traded or Cut by Grizzlies, Top Potential Landing Spots

The Memphis Grizzlies are reportedly set to part ways with veteran point guard D'Angelo Russell before the offseason comes to a close.

According to HoopsHype's Michael Scotto, Russell isn't expected to remain with the Grizzlies by the start of the 2026-27 season.

Memphis initially acquired him as part of a six-team trade in which forward Santi Aldama was sent to the Dallas Mavericks on July 7.

At 30 years old, Russell doesn't fit the timeline of a Grizzlies squad looking to build around a young core that includes Cameron Boozer, Zach Edey and Cedric Coward.

Memphis could trade Russell and his $6.0 million salary for his 2026-27 campaign, while cutting him is also an option if he doesn't receive much interest from opposing front offices.

The Miami Heat may be a potential landing spot for Russell, as he could provide guard depth while the team looks to contend in the Eastern Conference with Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo leading the way.

The Charlotte Hornets could also bring in Russell for a reserve role after trading star point guard LaMelo Ball to the Minnesota Timberwolves earlier this offseason.

Russell suited up in 26 contests with the Mavericks last season, averaging 10.2 points and 4.0 assists in 19.0 minutes per game while compiling 40.5/29.5/71.7 shooting splits.
