CNN Original Series 'Decades in Sports' TV Schedule, Replay Info and Episode Guide

Fans hoping for an extensive course in sports history this year are in luck.

CNN announced the schedule for its original series Decades in Sports ahead of Sunday's airing of the first two episodes. The series, which comes from executive producers Tom Hanks, Gary Goetzman and Mark Herzog, premieres Sunday with the first two episodes starting at 9 p.m. ET.

There will be six episodes in all in the series, which will air weekly on Sundays at 9 p.m. ET.

New episodes will then be available the following day on streaming on the CNN app and CNN.com/watch.

"Across six episodes, Decades in Sports explores the defining moments, athletes and cultural shifts that shaped sports over the past six decades, from the television revolution and Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, to the transformative social and political changes of the 1970s, to the impact of social media on today's biggest sports stars," CNN revealed in its announcement. 

"Along the way, each decade reveals the unforgettable athletes, championship moments and cultural milestones that transformed sports, and America."

Decades in Sports is the latest edition of CNN's Decades franchise, which has explored American history through the lens of political events, pop culture developments and more throughout the 1960s to the 2010s.

While sports have been mentioned in past episodes, the latest series will specifically focus on the games and athletes that have defined American history across various decades and their larger meaning.

The trailer put a focus on moments that "changed the game" and "brought us together" and "made history" while featuring interviews about cultural icons such as Michael Jordan, Simone Biles, Tiger Woods and the gold-medal-winning Miracle on Ice hockey team.

Athletes, coaches, journalists, historians and sports broadcasters such as Bob Costas, Al Michaels, Andrea Kremer, Diana Taurasi, Bomani Jones and more will be interviewed and provide additional commentary on the decade-defining moments and people who have been so integral to the development of the games and competitions millions love.

And it all starts Sunday.
