Eagles' Jalen Hurts Hypes LeBron James' 76ers Contract, Says It's 'Huge' for Philadelphia

Jalen Hurts knows what it's like to win a championship in Philadelphia, and he's excited the city's basketball team is adding a legend who can help it do the same.

"I think for what he represents in sports and sports culture, it's huge—and it's huge for the city of Philadelphia," the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback told reporters Wednesday when discussing LeBron James' decision to join the Philadelphia 76ers. "It'll be exciting to have a figure like that in the city, what he's done, one of the greatest to ever do it. I'm excited to be a part of that."

He wasn't the only member of the Eagles' backfield who expressed excitement about the King's arrival to Philadelphia.

"I think the city of Philadelphia is a super cool place to be for sports, with how involved the fans are," running back Saquon Barkley told reporters. "Having LeBron here is just great for the culture."

While Hurts, Barkley and the Eagles are just one full season removed from their Super Bowl title, the 76ers might be better positioned than any other team in the city to deliver the next championship.

Just adding an all-time great in James alone would have been a major deal, but Philadelphia also traded for Jaylen Brown after the former Boston Celtics wing finished sixth in MVP voting last season.

With a core of Brown, James, Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe, the 76ers may be the best team in the Eastern Conference. And if Hurts and Barkley are leading the way on the gridiron like they did during the 2024 campaign, the city may have two championship contenders come January.
