76ers Reportedly Make Trade with Clippers to Finalize KCP Contract, Updated Salary Cap Outlook

The Philadelphia 76ers reportedly aren't done dealing this offseason even after adding LeBron James.

ESPN's Shams Charania reported Tuesday the 76ers traded forward Johni Broome and a second-round draft pick to the Los Angeles Clippers for cash considerations, which means Philly will be able to stay under both the first and second tax aprons even with the additions of James and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.

Charania's salary update comes after ESPN's Bobby Marks provided an overlook of the situation Saturday:

While Broome is a player going to the Clippers in this deal, the more notable development from the trade is Philadelphia figuring out a way to have a loaded championship contender while still coming in under both aprons.

A core of Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid, Jaylen Brown, James and VJ Edgecombe with serviceable pieces coming off the bench such as Caldwell-Pope, Dean Wade and Anfernee Simons puts the team among the league's elite, at least on paper.

And having all that star power in one place without significant concern about the financial outlook is a testament to the front office's work this offseason.

That doesn't mean there aren't some reasons for concern, as Embiid has historically struggled with durability and James will turn 42 years old during the upcoming season. Still, the 76ers have positioned themselves to compete for a championship in an Eastern Conference that figures to be stronger.

As for Broome, he will look to carve out a role in a Clippers frontcourt rotation that no longer has Ivica Zubac after they traded him to the Indiana Pacers last season.

Philadelphia selected Broome with a second-round pick in the 2025 NBA draft, and he appeared in 11 games during his rookie campaign. The Auburn product averaged just 0.9 points and 1.5 rebounds in 5.0 minutes a night, so there is plenty of room for growth.

Perhaps it will happen with the Clippers.
