Jaylen Brown Reportedly Recruited LeBron to 76ers, 'No Ego' Approach Detailed in New NBA Rumors

Jaylen Brown may have helped convince LeBron James to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers in free agency.

ESPN's Shams Charania reported Tuesday on NBA Today Brown "wanted LeBron James there" with him in Philadelphia.

"He did his part to recruit him there," Charania said.

Charania added, "One person around Jaylen Brown told me today: He's going to approach this with no ego."

The Sixers acquired Brown from the Boston Celtics earlier this month before signing James last Friday to a two-year, $8 million deal with a player option.

ames and Brown are now set to join Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe and Joel Embiid in the Sixers starting lineup.

Brown is coming out of a 2025-26 campaign during which he took on a larger ball-handling role for a Celtics offense missing Jayson Tatum for most of the campaign.

James served as more of a facilitator during his last season with the Lakers as Austin Reaves and Luka Dončić took over as offensive leaders.

The Sixers are expecting James to "play a good amount of time" at point guard during his 24th NBA season, Charania reported Monday.

That could potentially mean a relative reduction in on-ball responsibilities for Maxey and Brown, which the Sixers will hope will correspond with a boost in efficiency for both stars.

"There are going to be a lot of people that want the ball in their hands next season, and that's why LeBron James making a decision— obviously, in conversations with Nick Nurse and the Sixers— to be the guy that's going to set the table for all of them, to try and put them in positions where they can score, and he can be the facilitator," Charania said Tuesday.

James ranks fourth in NBA history with more than 12,000 career assists. His ability to distribute to Maxey, Brown, Edgecombe and Embiid will play a major role in the Sixers' hopes of competing for a title next spring.
