New DeMar DeRozan Potential Landing Spot Revealed in Latest NBA Rumors amid Heat, Cavs Buzz

Paul KasabianJul 28, 2026

The Washington Wizards have reportedly had conversations with free agent DeMar DeRozan over the last few days, per ESPN's Shams Charania on Tuesday's edition of NBA Today.

The Wizards are among at least three other teams who have shown interest in DeRozan after Charania's Monday report on NBA Today.

"I'm told Miami, Denver and Cleveland are among the teams interested in DeMar DeRozan," Charania stated.

DeRozan, who turns 37 years old on Aug. 7, is a six-time All-Star and three-time All-NBA player. The guard/forward has played 17 NBA seasons for the Toronto Raptors, San Antonio Spurs, Chicago Bulls and Sacramento Kings.

The Kings waived DeRozan on July 6, making him a free agent. Per ESPN, DeRozan and Sacramento worked together on the release to give him an opportunity to find a new landing spot.

DeRozan just averaged 18.4 points on 49.7 percent shooting, 4.1 assists and 2.9 rebounds per game over 77 starts (31.2 minutes per game). He clearly has a lot left to offer, and it's no surprise at least four teams are interested in his services.

Regarding the latest report, the Wizards should be much-improved from last year on paper. Washington went a league-worst 17-65 in 2025-26, but the Wizards just added the top overall draft pick (BYU forward AJ Dybantsa) and will have Trae Young and Anthony Davis aboard next year.

Other talent is scattered throughout the roster, including Alex Sarr, Kyshawn George, Khris Middleton and Deandre Ayton.

DeRozan would certainly help improve a team that could very well go from last place to the playoffs, but the Wizards appear to have some competition to sign him.
