New Details on Why Heat Scheduled LeBron Video Revealed in Latest NBA Rumors After 76ers Decision

One staffer's vacation was to blame for the planned live stream for LeBron James' return to the Miami Heat, according to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne.

The Heat uploaded a video, scheduled for a July 27 release, that was titled "LeBron James Introductory Press Conference."

Shelburne reported a member of the Heat's communications team had scheduled vacation for this week and was trying to get ahead of work that could come up if James indeed chose the Heat."

In the event LeBron returned to South Florida, he probably wasn't going to have a splashy press conference alongside team president Pat Riley and coach Erik Spoelstra. But it made sense to plan ahead for that possibility.

Shelburne noted there was another layer to this mini-saga: "Then the coup de grâce. Internet sleuths soon found a job posting for the Heat's YouTube page that seemed to suggest the person who'd made the gaffe had been immediately fired. Never mind that the job post had been up since the beginning of July."

Rest assured there were press releases written by the Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors and perhaps others that were intended to follow James' personal announcement. The same was true for splashy social media graphics and hype reels.

All of that work will never see the light of day.
