Steph Curry Addresses LeBron's Decision to Snub Warriors for 76ers After Rumors in NBA Free Agency

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry isn't lingering for too long on what could've been after LeBron James opted to sign for the Philadelphia 76ers.

"That's why you don't envision anything until it happens," he told The Athletic's Marcus Thompson II. "There's a lot of moving parts."

Curry was also honest about the challenge that lays before Golden State heading into the 2026-27 NBA season.

"The through line, which is hard on anybody in this situation, especially with us keeping this thing together, is knowing that when Jimmy got hurt and Moses got hurt, the whole calculus of everything changes," he said. "How do you get through their absence and still stay at a certain level? And then how that goes into this year. It's the same deal. So I'm a realist on that."

The Warriors were in the mix for James throughout the days and weeks of him meditating over his next move.

Seeing the two stars who have defined this era more than any other on the same team would've been a lot of fun, even if Steph and LeBron are past their primes.

However, Golden State's rumored pursuit of Anthony Davis seemed to indicate the organization understood it didn't have the strongest hand. Curry, Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler are all in their mid-30s, and Butler is coming off a torn ACL.

If he and Curry were 10 years younger, James might've been able to talk himself more into a move to the Bay Area. In the present day, the Warriors have an aging roster with serious limitations, and the front office lacked the means to make serious upgrades.

A 76ers roster built around Joel Embiid, Jaylen Brown and Tyrese Maxey is far more enticing from a basketball standpoint.

With this door closed, there's still time for Golden State general manager Mike Dunleavy to swing a deal that gives the team a short-term upgrade. DeMar DeRozan was linked with the Warriors earlier this month before James picked Philly.

If any additions do happen, fans may have trouble shrugging off the disappointment from missing out on LeBron.
