LeBron, 76ers' 2027 NBA Title Odds After Joining Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, Brown in Free Agency

The Philadelphia 76ers are now the fourth favorite to win the 2027 NBA Finals following the addition of LeBron James.

FanDuel Sportsbook has Philly at +1000 to be the last team standing. The Sixers follow the Oklahoma City Thunder (+260), San Antonio Spurs (+270) and New York Knicks (+900).

In terms of the Eastern Conference race, they're a close second (+390) behind the reigning champion Knicks (+330).

The lines are bound to move as fans hedge their bets for or against Philadelphia.

On paper, the Sixers have one of the strongest starting fives in the league. James could plausibly be the third option in a lineup that includes Joel Embiid, Jaylen Brown, Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe.

That kind of depth could be a strength or weakness, though.

There will be a lot of adjustments as Embiid, Brown, James and Maxey learn how to optimize one another on the court.

In the case of Brown, he was unapologetic in stating how much he enjoyed finally being the top star for the Boston Celtics after having shared the spotlight with Jayson Tatum. Now, the two-time All-NBA will be sacrificing even more than he was on his old team.

There's also no getting around the fact the Sixers' championship hopes will rest partially on the health and availability of Embiid come playoff time. James, who missed 22 games in 2025-26, isn't getting any younger, either.

This isn't the same as when a franchise pairs together a bunch of stars well into their 30s and past their prime. Still, having one with Embiid's injury record and another who will be 42 in December presents some risk.

For all intents and purposes, the 76ers looked completely stuck after getting swept in the second round of the NBA playoffs. Depending on what happens next year, acquiring Brown could be one of the more consequential NBA transactions in a long, long time.
