New Jonathan Kuminga Trade Rumors on Potential Hawks Reunion amid Lakers Links

Jonathan Kuminga could potentially return to the Atlanta Hawks after the franchise declined his team option earlier this summer, HoopsHype's Michael Scotto reported Wednesday.

According to Scotto, Kuminga "remains a candidate to return to Atlanta on a potential one-plus-one deal."

The Hawks have approximately $11.6 million in space beneath the first luxury tax apron, at which the team is hard-capped, per Spotrac.

Atlanta also has 17 roster spots filled after acquiring Luguentz Dort from the Oklahoma City Thunder, per ESPN's Bobby Marks. The team will need to cut down to 15 players by the regular season.

The Hawks acquired Kuminga last February as part of the trade that sent Kristaps Porziņģis to the Golden State Warriors.

Kuminga hit free agency after the Hawks declined his $24.3 million team option in June.

The Los Angeles Lakers, who were connected to a potential sign-and-trade deal for Kuminga before the Hawks declined his option, have reportedly expressed interest in signing him in free agency.

ESPN's Anthony Slater reported earlier this month the Lakers had pitched Kuminga on being "a high-minutes wing next to Luka Dončić."

Lakers insider Jovan Buha later reported the team had offered Kuminga a two-year, $20 million deal, but that Kuminga was looking for "closer to $20 million AAV."

The 23-year-old has also received sign-and-trade interest from the Los Angeles Clippers, Cleveland Cavaliers and Milwaukee Bucks, per Scotto. The Sacramento Kings had previously expressed interest, per Andscape's Marc J. Spears (h/t ESPN).

Kuminga appeared for the Hawks in 16 regular-season games, during which he averaged 12.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 22 minutes per contest. He later averaged 13.7 points while coming off the bench in six playoff games.
