Steph Curry Injury Update, Latest on Warriors Star's Status Ahead of NBA Opener vs. Lakers
Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry will play in Wednesday's season opener against the Los Angeles Lakers after suffering an ankle injury during the team's open practice on Sunday, head coach Steve Kerr told reporters on Monday.
According to the Warriors, Curry suffered a right ankle sprain.
Curry, 38, is heading into his 18th season with the Warriors on an expiring $62 million contract.
He was available for just half of the 2025-26 campaign due to ankle, quadricep and knee injuries.
That included an issue Curry described as "runner's knee," which sidelined him for two months between February and April.
When available last season, Curry averaged 26.6 points on 46.8 percent shooting from the field and 39.3 shooting from deep.
He added 3.6 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.1 steals per game while playing 30.9 minutes per night in 43 games.
Curry's absence had a major impact on his team's success, especially when he missed time while Jimmy Butler was already sidelined with a knee injury.
The Warriors went 13-26 without Curry in the lineup and 24-19 with him playing. Curry ultimately returned in time for last spring's play-in tournament but was unable to will his team to victory over the Phoenix Suns.
As Butler continues recovering from the surgical repair of his torn right ACL he underwent in January, having Curry in the lineup will be crucial to the Warriors' hopes of staying in postseason contention.
Should Curry ultimately miss any time, Draymond Green could be tasked with increasing his offensive production as Brandin Podziemski and De'Anthony Melton see more playing time in the backcourt.
