Anthony Edwards Jokes He, LaMelo Ball Have to 'Cut Our Cussing Back' After T-Wolves' Trade for Star

Julia StumbaughJul 17, 2026

Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards joked Friday he and LaMelo Ball are already working on cleaning up their interview language now that they're both playing for the same team.

"You mentioned the postgame interview— we already were talking about it, where we've got to cut our cussing back, be a little bit more professional," Edwards said Friday during Fanatics Fest in New York City.

"We're trying to get it together before they get on us."

The Charlotte Hornets traded Ball to the Timberwolves in June in exchange for a package including Naz Reid and a 2033 first-round pick.

Ball was fined $25,000 by the NBA for his use of what the league described as profane language during a live postgame interview following the Hornets' play-in win over the Miami Heat in April.

The most costly sanction of Ball's career came when he was fined $100,000 after an interview following a game in November 2024.

Edwards received his most recent fine for profanity when the NBA charged him $50,000 for comments made after Game 1 of the 2025 Western Conference Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Wolves star paid his own $100,000 fine for a comment made in an on-court interview in December 2024. He has received multiple other fines for profane language during games and on social media, as well as for public criticism of NBA officiating.

The two players might have been discussing those past fines at Edwards' house, where Edwards said Friday Ball has been staying "the last two days."

"I'm rushing back to Minnesota so we can kick it a little more, 'cause I think a lot of people misjudge the NBA," Edwards said. "It's just like AAU. The closer you and you team are, the more chance y'all got to win a championship."

The Timberwolves will hope that bonding between Edwards and Ball pays off with a 2027 postseason run as the duo prepares to join a projected starting five also staffed by Ayo Dosunmu, Jaden McDaniels and Rudy Gobert.
