Latest LeBron James Rumors on 76ers' Pursuit of NBA Free Agent, Talks with Brown, Embiid, Maxey
The Philadelphia 76ers are in hot pursuit of LeBron James, with numerous stars speaking with him of late and Tyrese Maxey leading the way, per ESPN's Dave McMenamin.
"Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid and Jaylen Brown have all been in communication with James, sources told ESPN on Tuesday, with Maxey leading the charge."
"The 25-year-old Maxey, a fellow Klutch Sports client who has trained with James in the offseason for the past several years, has referred to the 41-year-old star as a 'big brother' in the past.
As McMenamin noted, ESPN's Shams Charania reported Tuesday that the 76ers, Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat are considered the top three landing spots for James.
James would be a great fit in Philadelphia, sliding in at the 4 alongside Maxey at point guard, VJ Edgecombe at shooting guard, Brown at small forward and Embiid at center.
Philadelphia just made the second round of the playoffs after upsetting the No. 2 seed Boston Celtics, which was co-led by Brown and Jayson Tatum.
Now Brown is aboard Philadelphia after a trade that sent Paul George and draft picks back to Boston. He just averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists en route to All-NBA Second Team honors.
Adding James into the mix would make Philadelphia one of the top title contenders in the league, and that's a requirement for him as he searches for his next team.
So Philadelphia certainly makes sense from that perspective.
The 76ers face competition from two of James' former teams in the Cavs and Heat, both of whom should be contenders in the East as well. Cleveland just made the Eastern Conference Finals, and the Heat added one of the NBA's top stars in Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Stil, Philadelphia is squarely in the mix right now as the watch continues.
