New Bronny James Trade Rumors on Lakers Plans amid LeBron's Free Agent Buzz

Andrew PetersJul 14, 2026

With LeBron James on the move this offseason, many have questioned what that means for his son, Bronny.

According to The Athletic's Dan Woike, "assumptions that the father and son staying linked going forward are false." Woike added that Bronny is "well-liked" within the Lakers' locker room and is viewed as a "respected worker."

Front Office Sports' Alex Schiffer reported Monday that "multiple front office sources from teams in the mix for James said they have discussed acquiring Bronny should his father pick their team."

One NBA executive said, "We wouldn't be doing our jobs if we didn't discuss it."

Another exec told Schiffer that Bronny should carry some trade value, but the Lakers would surely be willing to deal him so he can continue playing with his father.

"They shouldn't give him away for nothing," the executive said. "He held his own in the playoffs this year. But would you really haggle over him continuing to play with his dad?"

Bronny was selected with the No. 55 pick in the 2024 draft by the Lakers after one season at USC. He spent most of his rookie season in the G League, appearing in just 27 games for the Lakers.

He saw much more NBA action in Year 2, playing 42 games for the Lakers and putting up 2.9 points per game in 8.9 minutes per contest.

Most of his minutes came in garbage time, though he became a legitimate rotation player at the end of the season when Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves were dealing with injuries. Bronny also played valuable minutes in Games 3 and 4 of the Lakers' first-round series against the Houston Rockets.

The 21-year-old is still far from being a starting-caliber player, but he's at least proved that he can come off the bench and give the Lakers strong perimeter defense and solid shooting.

Getting to play another season with his father would certainly be special, but Bronny could have the chance to establish himself as his own player if he stays in Los Angeles.
