Best Draft Class: Chicago White Sox
2 of 3
Top Picks
01: Roch Cholowsky, SS, UCLA
34: Landon Thome, SS, Nazareth Academy (IL)
41: Cole Prosek, 2B, Magnolia Heights (MS)
77: Joey Volchko, RHP, Georgia
105: Eric Segura, RHP, Oregon State
The White Sox were gifted the top pick in this year's draft, and they made the right choice with Cholowsky.
The UCLA star hit .320/.452/.636 with 21 home runs last season. That followed a sophomore season in which he hit 23 homers and drew more walks than strikeouts. He also displayed the kind of defense that will translate to the professional level immediately.
Like any prospect, he has some work to do, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him make his MLB debut as soon as 2028.
Chicago also picked up a potential star in Thome, one of the best hitters at the high school level last season. Thome is also just 18 years old and has pro baseball in his blood, being the son of Hall of Famer Jim Thome, so it's easy to see him developing into a major leaguer sooner rather than later.
Worst Draft Class: Milwaukee Brewers
3 of 3
25: Trey Ebel, SS, Corona HS (CA)
66: Sawyer Strosnider, OF, TCU
102: Kyle Jones, OF, Florida
130: Julian Garcia, RHP, St. John's Bosco HS (CA)
163: Aidan Knaak, RHP, Clemson
The Brewers had one of the biggest reaches of the draft when they picked Ebel at No. 25. MLB.com ranked Ebel as the No. 107 prospect in this year's draft class, and there were plenty of other shortstops ahead of him, making Milwaukee's decision to take him so early a bit jarring.
Ebel's brother, Brady, is in the Brewers' system, though, so the team perhaps understandably thought higher of him than other clubs did.
Milwaukee got some value back with its second pick since Strosnider was widely considered to be a first-round-level prospect. Jones has some upside, but the former Florida outfielder doesn't exactly have the raw power that would be expected from a 21-year-old.
It's impossible to predict how these prospects will turn out once they make it to the organization, but for now, the Brewers leave the draft with a handful of question marks.
