Shohei Ohtani Injured, Dodgers Star's Status for 2026 MLB All-Star Game Revealed
Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani will miss the 2026 MLB All-Star Game due to a left knee injury.
"Shohei Ohtani will not make his scheduled start on the mound this evening against the D-backs due to continued irritation in his left knee," the Dodgers announced Friday. "He will serve as the designated hitter the rest of the weekend, but following the series against the D-backs he will have some interventions on his knee to put him in the best position for the second half of the season. Unfortunately, due to these events, he will not be able to travel to Philadelphia and participate in the 2026 All-Star Game."
Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reported Ohtani will have his left knee drained and then will "likely" receive and injection.
Ohtani previously dealt with left knee inflammation during Los Angeles' 8-6 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on June 11.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts confirmed that the team was taking a cautious approach regarding the four-time MVP's health after the game.
"We tried to be smart about it and get him out of the game," Roberts said at the time, per MLB.com's John Perrotto. "He told the trainer that he felt a little something behind his knee, and I just didn't see any sense in risking it."
It's worth noting that the two-way star underwent surgery to address a bipartite patella in his left knee in Sept. 2019.
With the Dodgers owning the best record in the majors at 61-33, Ohtani may not have a particularly large workload throughout the second half of the year to ensure that he's healthy for a potential postseason run.
He's remained a key piece of Los Angeles' rotation this season, owning a 8-2 record in 14 starts to go along with a 1.79 ERA and 0.946 WHIP.
The 32-year-old is also slashing .290/.405/.534 with 20 home runs and 56 RBI in 2026.
