No. 1 Jannik Sinner vs. No. 2 Alexander Zverev
1 of 1
After years of underwhelming results at Wimbledon, Alexander Zverev has finally achieved a breakthrough.
However, he now faces his toughest challenge yet: Jannik Sinner, his so-called Achilles heel.
Although Zverev won four of their first five meetings, he has since lost nine consecutive matches to the world No. 1.
In this tournament, Zverev has overcome some of his past struggles, notably by dominating Taylor Fritz in straight sets after having lost their previous seven encounters.
But Taylor Fritz is not Jannik Sinner.
Since coming from behind to defeat Miomir Kecmanovic in the first round, Sinner has not dropped a single set.
In the semifinals, the four-time major champion defeated Novak Djokovic in straight sets, winning 89 percent of points on his first serve and limiting arguably the greatest returner in history to just one break-point opportunity.
After looking vulnerable early in the tournament, Sinner now appears to be playing the best tennis of his career.
Zverev may, however, enter this match with a different perspective.
This will be their first meeting since Zverev captured his first major title at the 2026 French Open.
The 29-year-old German has been dominant on serve and has played increasingly aggressively from the baseline as the tournament has progressed.
Additionally, his forehand has improved significantly.
Zverev's success in matches like these often hinges not on talent but on his tendency to play passively and allow nerves to impact his performance.
If he can land around 75 to 80 percent of his first serves and stay mentally strong, Zverev has a chance to force several tiebreakers.
However, he is 0-6 against world No. 1 players at Grand Slams, and considering Sinner's performance against Djokovic, pulling off an upset seems highly unlikely.
Prediction: No. 1 Jannik Sinner def. No. 2 Alexander Zverev in 4 sets
