Wimbledon Day 8 Recap 📋

In the Osaka-Muchova match, neither player held their serve over the first four games of the first set. Osaka had the best opportunity to hold serve up 2-1 and 40-30 in the game, but Muchová earned three straight points to tie the first set at two.

From there, both players started holding serve. Muchová had one break point opportunity with Osaka serving down 3-2, but the four-time major winner persevered with three straight points to hold.

Osaka had one break point opportunity in a hard-fought game with Muchová serving with the first set tied at five. However, Muchová hung tough, held on and won the 12-point game to go up 6-5.

Eventually, Muchová and Osaka went to a tiebreaker. Muchová jumped out to a 5-1 lead en route to the 7-4 victory.

Osaka had 16 winners to Muchová's 11 in the first set. However, Osaka also had 16 unforced errors to Muchová's 11.

In the second set, both players held serve through the first eight games, leaving Osaka serving with the set tied at four.

This game was an absolute battle. Osaka had a couple chances to put the game away but could not convert. Ultimately, a double fault and a few unforced errors led to Muchova getting the break. Muchová then served for the match and won.

It was a great win over Muchová, who served and moved very well and ultimately proved to be the better player on this day. Muchová notably won 36-of-45 first serve points (80 percent).

As for Osaka, it's a tough loss, especially given the amount of unforced errors (32 to Muchová's 21). However, Osaka enjoyed a great tournament overall, winning all eight of her sets over four matches going into Tuesday and defeating No. 1 seed Aryna Sabalenka in the Round of 16.

This contest looked evenly matched on the surface going into the afternoon. Muchová and Osaka had played six times before and split their matchups, 3-3.

They played once on grass before, and that was their most recent matchup on Saturday, June 27, when Muchová won in a walkover (6-1, 1-0) at the Bad Hamburg Open final in Germany after Osaka dealt with a foot injury.

In the end, Muchová was the winner Tuesday and now plays Gauff, who holds the lead in the head-to-head battle 6-1. Their match will take place on Thursday.
