Brunson, 29, didn't look like a player struggling with a shooting hand injury during New York's title run, averaging 32.6 points and 4.6 assists per game in the NBA Finals, including his 45 points in the decisive Game 5 win over the San Antonio Spurs.
During the entirety of the 2025-26 playoffs he averaged 28.4 points and 6.1 assists per contest and was named the MVP of both the Eastern Conference Finals and NBA Finals. In the process he became arguably the most important Knicks' player ever, helping the team end a 53-year title drought.
You only need to hear how former Knicks legends describe him to understand how much he captivated New York City.
"He's got the tenacity of Willis Reed and he's got my cool," Walt Frazier said of Brunson in June.
"The thing about this city, Jalen. It's not just aboutĀ whatĀ you accomplish here, butĀ howĀ you accomplish it," Patrick Ewing added. "Like a true New Yorker, you dare people to doubt youāand go about your business."
Even through injuries, it would seem.
