'Knicks Still Champs,' Josh Hart Reacts to USMNT's World Cup Loss to Belgium in Knockout Bracket
The United States Men's National Team was eliminated from the 2026 World Cup with a 4-1 loss to Belgium in the round of 16 on Monday, but Josh Hart had a silver lining.
Or, at least a silver lining for New York Knicks fans.
Hart took to social media and pointed out the Knicks are still champions even though the Americans lost their World Cup game:
He also had some fun at Belgium's expense and was already looking ahead to the next men's World Cup:
Hart isn't wrong about the Knicks. They defeated the San Antonio Spurs in five games in the NBA Finals. They overcame double-digit deficits in each of the five contests, including when they made NBA history by erasing a 29-point deficit in Game 4.
Unlike New York, the Americans were not able to erase their deficit against Belgium.
Belgium jumped out to a 2-1 lead at intermission by controlling play during the majority of the first half. The United States was still well within striking distance at the start of the second half, but fell apart late and is still looking to qualify for its first quarterfinal since 2002.
