Ja Morant's Blazers Jersey Number Revealed in New Video After Blockbuster Trade from Grizzlies
Ja Morant is taking a new number to go along with his new team.
Morant is switching from No. 12 to No. 1 ahead of his first season with the Portland Trail Blazers, the team revealed in a Thursday video on social media.
Morant wore No. 12 for seven seasons with the Grizzlies before he was traded earlier this week in exchange for Jerami Grant and Kris Murray.
No. 12 was most recently worn in Portland by LaMarcus Aldridge, who wore the jersey from 2006 to 2015.
The Blazers have not retired the number, although no player has worn it since and Damian Lillard has campaigned for the franchise to put No. 12 in the rafters.
No. 1 was worn for the Blazers last season by Blake Wesley, who hit free agency after playing out a one-year contract with the team.
Morant, a two-time All-Star with the Grizzlies, is seeking a bounce-back campaign after he was limited to just 20 games last season.
The Blazers will hope better health and a spot in a new rotation featuring Damian Lillard will help Morant return to All-Star status next season.
