Lakers' Updated 2027 NBA Title Odds After LeBron James Decides to Test Free Agency
After star forward LeBron James informed the Los Angeles Lakers that he intends to test free agency, the team's title odds took a slight hit.
FanDuel Sportsbook now lists the Lakers with +4,500 odds to win the 2027 NBA championship, tied with the Indiana Pacers for the 10th-best odds.
Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul told ESPN's Shams Charania that James informed the Lakers that the franchise can move on without him because he plans to continue his NBA career elsewhere.
"LeBron James is one of the greatest athletes in history. We will always be thankful for his eight years with the Lakers -- including the title he led us to in 2020 under the toughest imaginable circumstances and the countless records he broke in purple and gold," Lakers governor Jeanie Buss said in a statement. "We wish him all the best in the future, both on the court and off. He will always be a cherished part of the Lakers family."
James joined the Lakers in 2018. In addition to helping the team win the 2020 NBA championship, he became the league's all-time leading scorer during his tenure in Los Angeles.
The 41-year-old will be playing in his 24th NBA season in 2026-27, but he remains one of the league's top performers. He averaged 20.9 points, 7.2 assists and 6.1 rebounds while shooting 51.5 percent from the field across 60 games in the 2025-26 campaign.
James' decision on his next landing spot will undoubtedly impact the NBA title odds again, as he will undoubtedly be looking to land with a team that can help him win a fifth championship ring.
