Knicks to Get Ball from OG Anunoby's Iconic NBA Finals Game-Winning Tip-In, Auction Cancelled
The game-used ball from the New York Knicks' epic comeback win over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 4 of the NBA Finals won't be available on the auction block after all.
Per Darren Rovell of Cllct, the ball that Knicks forward OG Anunoby tipped in during the waning seconds of Game 4 for an iconic game-winner was pulled from the Sotheby's NBA Finals Auction just 30 minutes before it began. An NBA spokesperson released a statement saying the ball "holds significant importance to the New York Knicks, their fans, and the city, and will remain with the team as a lasting piece of franchise history."
The Knicks miraculously stormed back from a 29-point second-half deficit against the Spurs in Game 4 in front of their home fans at Madison Square Garden. In the closing moments, star guard Jalen Brunson launched a deep three-pointer that bounced off the front rim, and Anunoby soared past multiple Spurs players to tip the ball into the basket with 1.2 seconds left on the clock, securing a 107-106 win.
Anunoby's game-saving play gave the Knicks a 3-1 series lead in the NBA Finals, and they closed things out with another comeback win on the road in Game 5 for their first NBA championship since 1973.
While the game ball likely would've scored a massive bid in Tuesday's auction, it's safe to say that it belongs with the Knicks.
