Latest Jaylen Brown Trade Rumors Reveal Clippers Want Celtics Star 'Bad' amid Kawhi-Raptors Buzz
While the Los Angeles Clippers have reportedly been engaged with the Toronto Raptors in trade negotiations for star forward Kawhi Leonard, it sounds like they covet another star as their top target this offseason.
ESPN's Vincent Goodwill named the Clippers among the teams interested in trading for Boston Celtics star guard Jaylen Brown, with one executive saying they "want Brown bad."
ESPN's Shams Charania reported on Monday's episode of SportsCenter that the Clippers and Raptors are "seriously engaged" in trade discussions regarding Leonard, who is entering the final year of his contract. Charania noted that Leonard's reps "informed other teams he only wanted to sign an extension with the Raptors if the Clippers were not going to keep him."
Shipping away a star like Leonard would make room for Los Angeles to acquire Brown, but it won't be easy. Goodwill reported that the Portland Trail Blazers and Denver Nuggets are also "among the teams that have registered interest" in acquiring the 29-year-old this summer, and there are questions about whether the Celtics actually want to move him.
"Execs believe the Celtics are canvassing the league to figure out what Brown's true value is, as he has three years left on his contract," Goodwill reported. "There's a small pocket of execs and agents who believe the Celtics are bluffing with Brown, but the prevailing thought is they want to move on this -- soon."
Acquiring Brown would help the Clippers maintain their status as playoff contenders in the competitive Western Conference. It appears that Los Angeles is prepared to turn its attention to Brown once its situation with Leonard is resolved.
