New Ja Morant Rumors Update Trade Timeline for Grizzlies Star After Giannis Acquired by Heat
At least one potential Ja Morant suitor is probably out of the running following the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade.
According to Kevin O'Connor of Yahoo Sports, "Sources say the Miami Heat had interest in Morant before the Giannis deal, but there is not much expectation that he will get bought out. In fact, league sources expect Morant to be traded this week."
The Heat could package Andrew Wiggins (after he opts in to his $30.1 million player option) and Davion Mitchell for Morant and make the salary matching work, though they'd be left with very little depth. And the Heat have had chances to trade for Morant in the past and seemingly decided against it, so it's hard to see what would have changed now.
A buyout would have made sense, or a trade if the Giannis situation fell through. Now, however, that ship appears to have sailed.
But it does sound as though Morant's time in Memphis is finally coming to a close. His value has never been lower, but the two-time All-Star still could make a major impact for a team if he's able to stay healthy.
