AJ Dybantsa, Wizards vs. Darryn Peterson, Jazz to Open 2026 NBA Summer League, Date, Time Revealed
The 2026 NBA Vegas Summer League will open with a matchup between the top two picks in this year's draft.
The Washington Wizards and AJ Dybantsa, the No. 1 overall selection, will face off against the Utah Jazz and Darryn Peterson, the No. 2 overall choice, on July 9 (via Chandler Holt of KSL Sports).
Tip-off is at 9 p.m. ET.
Dybantsa and Peterson were reportedly both in the mix to be the top choice in the draft, although the Wizards ultimately settled on the former.
Peterson revealed that being passed over by Washington for the No. 1 pick will stay on his mind as he prepares for his rookie season.
"Obviously I wanted to be the No. 1 pick, but I went No. 2," Peterson said, via Sam Vecenie, John Hollinger and David Aldridge of The Athletic. "So now I'm prepared to go to Utah and get to work. There's always been a chip on my shoulder, so I wouldn't say it added anything else. But now it will always be in my mind for my whole career."
While Peterson only appeared in 24 games as a freshman at Kansas due to hamstring, quad and ankle issues, he still showed promise when available.
He averaged 20.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.4 steals per game while shooting 43.8 percent from the field and 38.2 percent from three-point territory.
Dybantsa was dominant throughout his 2025-26 campaign at BYU, leading the country by averaging 25.5 points per game. He also recorded 6.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.1 steals on a nightly basis while connecting on 51.0 percent of his field-goal attempts.
The 2026 Vegas Summer League will begin on July 9 and run through July 19.
