Todd Monken Reveals NSFW Text He Sent to Lamar Jackson as Joke After Taking Browns HC Job
In his first year as head coach of the Cleveland Browns, Todd Monken made it clear that he has no intentions of taking it easy on his former quarterback.
Monken, who had served as Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator for the past three seasons, told Brian Wacker of The Baltimore Sun that star quarterback Lamar Jackson sent him a congratulatory text when he landed the job in Cleveland. Monken said he jokingly fired back with a declaration that let Jackson know he's now the enemy.
"Then I said, 'Go f--k yourself. We are going to blitz you every third down,'" Monken said (h/t Nick Shook of NFL.com). "He laughed."

In his first season under Monken's direction, Jackson won his second career NFL MVP award after finishing the 2023 campaign with 3,678 passing yards, 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions while also adding 821 rushing yards and five more scores. Their second year together produced even more fireworks, as Jackson threw for career highs of 4,172 yards and 41 touchdowns against just four interceptions for a league-best 119.6 passer rating.
Things didn't go so well for the Ravens in 2025, as Jackson was limited to 13 games, and the team fell short of the playoffs with an 8-9 record. Head coach John Harbaugh and his staff were fired over the offseason, opening the door for Monken to land with the AFC North rival Browns.
"It tells you how fickle, just in general, life is," Monken told Wacker. "From the year before, if you'd have told me that we'd have been fired after the year we had offensively… I'll give it this, coaches, for the most part the players, never quit."
It sounds like Monken is looking forward to the chance to get some revenge when he faces Baltimore twice a year, so Jackson and company could be facing a tough test when they take on Cleveland in 2026 and beyond.
