New Celtics Rumors Reveal Rudy Gobert Interest Amid Giannis Trade Buzz

Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo might not be the only star the Boston Celtics are reportedly considering trading for this offseason.

NBA insider Jake Fischer reported Friday the Celtics inquired with the Minnesota Timberwolves about Rudy Gobert at the February trade deadline.

Fischer's news followed a report from The Athletic's Sam Amick that the Timberwolves "have a strong interest in the Celtics' Derrick White."

White and Gobert would serve as a salary match in a potential trade, Fischer noted.

Gobert is signed through next season at a $36.5 million cap hit with a $28 million player option for the 2027-28 campaign, per Spotrac.

White is signed for two more seasons at $30.3 million and $32.6 million, respectively. He also holds a $34.8 million player option for 2028-29, Spotrac reports.

Fischer added he doesn't "think that the Wolves are actively shopping Gobert," but that the team is expected to be "exploratory and open-minded" in retooling their roster around Anthony Edwards.

The Wolves are currently seemingly more willing to trade Julius Randle than Gobert, Fischer noted. Randle could also serve as a salary match for White given that he's signed at $33.3 million for next season.

The Celtics have been connected to an interest in Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo, although Amick reported Friday the Celtics would need to include Jaylen Brown as part of any potential Antetokounmpo deal.

Should the Celtics begin dismantling their 2024 championship core by trading Brown, the franchise could continue to shake things up around Jayson Tatum by also considering a deal for White this offseason.
