New Jonathan Kuminga Trade Rumors Leak amid Hawks' Contract Decision Before NBA Draft, Free Agency

After acquiring swingman Jonathan Kuminga at the trade deadline this past season, the Atlanta Hawks reportedly are weighing their options for his future with the franchise.

The Hawks have a June 29 deadline to decide on Kuminga's $24.3 million team option for the 2026-27 season. However, Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported that league sources said the Hawks "have conducted their due diligence and gauged Kuminga's value on the trade market" ahead of next week's 2026 NBA draft.

Kuminga played 16 regular-season games for Atlanta after being acquired from the Golden State Warriors in February, and he averaged 12.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists. In the team's first-round playoff series against the eventual NBA champion New York Knicks, he averaged 13.7 points and 3.3 rebounds, scoring a combined 40 points in the Hawks' two wins before they lost in six games.

Atlanta owns the New Orleans Pelicans' No. 8 pick and the Cleveland Cavaliers' No. 23 pick in Tuesday's first round, giving the team the chance to add potential future stars to its roster. B/R's Jonathan Wasserman predicted in his latest mock draft that the Hawks would select Louisville guard Mikel Brown Jr. at No. 8 and Kentucky forward Jayden Quaintance at No. 23.

Trading Kuminga would net more assets for Atlanta as it tries to maintain its status as a playoff contender, so it could be motivated to part ways with the 23-year-old in the coming days.
