AJ Dybantsa's Dad Tells NBA Insider He Has Wizards, Jazz Shirts for Draft Night amid New Rumors

AJ Dybantsa and his family are seemingly preparing for him to be either the No. 1 or No. 2 overall pick in the 2026 NBA draft next week.

Speaking Wednesday on Brian Windhorst & The Hoop Collective (beginning at the 38-minute mark), ESPN NBA insider Brian Windhorst shared that Dybantsa's father, Ace Dybantsa, texted him a photo of himself holding both Washington Wizards and Utah Jazz shirts.

The Wizards own the No. 1 overall pick in the June 23 draft, while the Jazz are set to pick second, which suggests the Dybantsa family expects one of those two teams to select AJ.

For months, pundits have debated whether Dybantsa or Darryn Peterson will be the top pick in the draft, and there is still no definitive answer to that question less than a week out from the draft.

While both are considered potential franchise-altering talents, Dybantsa and Peterson are taking different approaches during the lead up to the draft.

According to ESPN's Shams Charania and Jeremy Woo, Peterson has opted to meet with only the Wizards and no other teams. Meanwhile, Dybantsa has met with both the Wizards and Jazz.

Dybantsa is coming off a dynamic first and only season at the college level with BYU, leading the nation in scoring with 25.5 points per game en route to being named Big 12 Freshman of the Year and a consensus First Team All-American.

Peterson was great in his own right at Kansas, averaging 20.2 points per game, but nagging injuries limited him to 24 games, and they could possibly be a cause for concern among some NBA teams.

In his most recent mock draft, Bleacher Report's Jonathan Wasserman projected Dybantsa to go first overall to the Wizards and Peterson to go second overall to the Jazz.

That seems to be the most popular prediction among experts, and it could prove to be the right one come next week, but the Dybantsas are prepared with Jazz merch just in case the Wizards pass on AJ.
