Jonathan Kuminga, Austin Reaves' Top Free-Agent Landing Spots After 2026 NBA Draft
With the first round of the 2026 NBA draft coming to a close, it's time to look ahead towards free agency.
Two players that could find a new home as free agents are Atlanta Hawks forward Jonathan Kuminga and Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves.
Kuminga has a team option for the 2026-27 season, while Reaves holds a player option for his 2026-27 campaign.
Here are a few landing spots for each player.
Jonathan Kuminga
1 of 2
Kuminga could draw interest from several teams after averaging 12.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game on 46.3/33.3/72.4 shooting splits in 36 combined appearances with the Golden State Warriors and Hawks last season.
Atlanta Hawks
Kuminga might end up sticking with Atlanta, as NBA insider Jake Fischer previously reported that both sides had "mutual interest" in declining the 23-year-old's team option and focusing on an extension instead.
He was a key piece of the Hawks' offense during their first-round playoff loss at the hands of the New York Knicks, averaging 13.7 points in 26.0 minutes per game while shooting 48.3 percent from the field.
Sacramento Kings
The Kings could show interest in Kuminga as a free agent after they reportedly pursued him during the 2025 offseason.
Sacramento is searching for more scoring help from its wings next year, as Kings forwards combined to average 43.7 points per game in the 2025-26 season and ranked No. 25 among all NBA teams.
Chicago Bulls
Kuminga is still young enough to fit the timeline of a rebuilding Bulls squad and has ties to the organization's revamped front office.
Bryson Graham, Chicago's new executive vice president of basketball operations, previously served as the Hawks' senior vice president and was part of the regime that acquired Kuminga in a trade with the Warriors last season.
Austin Reaves
2 of 2
While Reaves was limited to just 51 appearances last year due to an oblique injury, he still averaged a career-high 23.3 points to go along with 5.5 assists and 4.7 rebounds per game. He shot 49.0 percent from the field and 36.0 percent from behind the arc.
Los Angeles Lakers
Similar to Kuminga, it isn't hard to imagine Reaves remaining on the team that he spent the 2025-26 season with.
NBA insider Marc Stein previously reported that the Lakers are "widely expected" to re-sign Reaves given his fondness for the organization as well as his chemistry with star Luka Dončić.
Brooklyn Nets
After finishing with a 20-62 record and missing the playoffs for a third consecutive year, the Nets may view Reaves as a player to build their organization around moving forward.
The 28-year-old routinely stepped up whenever Dončić or LeBron James missed time during the 2025-26 season and could see his scoring average increase even further as Brooklyn's offensive engine.
Detroit Pistons
The Pistons are coming off a season in which they finished at 60-22 and earned the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference, but their need for more help alongside Cade Cunningham became apparent during a second-round playoff loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
In the seven-game series against Cleveland, Cunningham averaged 23.9 points per game while no other Detroit player recorded at least 15 points per game.
As the Pistons look to remain a contender in the East and go on a deeper playoff run next year, a potential duo of Cunningham and Reaves is intriguing.
