New NBA Trade Rumors Reveal Player Cavs Could Shop to Save Salary Cap Space
The Cleveland Cavaliers are potentially looking into trading guard Dennis Schröder in order to shed some salary, per ESPN's Brian Windhorst.
According to Spotrac, the Cavs currently have $263.4 million allocated toward the 2026-27 salary cap. They are well above the first apron (by $13.2 million) and above the second apron as well ($211,000).

Schröder signed a three-year, $44.4 million contract with the Sacramento Kings last offseason, but the team traded him and Keon Ellis to the Cavs for De'Andre Hunter. He has a $14.8 million cap hit in 2026-27 and a $15.5 million cap hit in 2027-28.
Schröder, who turns 33 years old on Sept. 15, has played 13 NBA seasons for 11 NBA teams, averaging 13.7 points and 4.9 assists.
He mostly played off the bench for the Cavs in 30 games (three starts), averaging 8.2 points (40.1 percent shooting), 4.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 21.4 minutes per game. Schröder played 17 games off the bench in the playoffs, posting 5.5 points (38.1 percent shooting), 2.4 assists and 1.5 rebounds.
Cleveland earned the Eastern Conference's No. 4 playoff seed last season and defeated the No. 5 seed Toronto Raptors and No. 1 seed Detroit Pistons in seven games apiece. The Cavs then fell to the eventual NBA champion New York Knicks in four Eastern Conference Finals games.
So Cleveland has some work to do in hopes of taking the next step. We'll see what happens this offseason soon enough.
