Devin Vassell Reveals Dylan Harper 'Was Upset with Playing Time' After Spurs Lose to Knicks in Video

The way in which Dylan Harper exceeded expectations as a rookie could provide San Antonio Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson with a bit of a headache when weighing his lineups for next season.

During his press conference after Saturday's 94-90 loss to the New York Knicks, Spurs guard Devin Vassell praised Harper and called him a "a star in the making." He also said the first-year standout "was upset with playing time and different roles he was in" but persevered.

Harper averaged 11.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.9 assists in the regular season. He appeared in 69 games but made just four starts while logging 22.6 minutes per contest.

During the postseason, the No. 2 overall pick rose to the occasion. He was the Spurs' second-leading scorer (18 points) in the Finals behind Victor Wembanyama.

Looking ahead, it may be tough to convince Harper to accept a sixth man role again.

This is a good problem for the Spurs to have but a problem nonetheless.

As much as the organization won't want to overreact after arriving ahead of schedule and reaching the Finals, future success is never guaranteed. Johnson and his staff will need to make some changes in order to put San Antonio in the strongest position for 2026-27.
