Knicks' Jalen Brunson Gives 1-Word Answer on What Scouts Missed On Him Before NBA Draft

Jalen Brunson is two wins away from leading the New York Knicks to an NBA championship, something few would've predicted before he was drafted.

Brunson, a former second-round pick in the 2018 NBA draft, gave a simple answer when asked what scouts missed about him before the draft.

"Everything," Brunson said.

Brunson was a star at Villanova, leading the Wildcats to a pair of national championships and winning National Player of the Year in 2018, but he was far from the top of the draft board ahead of the 2018 NBA draft.

The lack of draft attention could be attributed to Brunson's defensive woes, plus the fact that he was on the older side after spending three years at the collegiate level. Nonetheless, he proved that he should've been taken much earlier.

But scouts weren't the only ones who overlooked Brunson. The first team he played for, the Dallas Mavericks, also didn't see Brunson's potential, as they let him walk in free agency in 2022, and he signed with the Knicks.

In his first year in New York, Brunson proved what he's capable of when given the reins to the offense, and he's since established himself as one of the best players in the world year in and year out.

During the regular season this year, he put up 26 points and 6.8 assists per game. He has posted similar numbers in the playoffs, leading New York to 13 consecutive wins.

Brunson has already done more than enough to prove those who doubted him wrong, but bringing New York its first title in 53 years would be the cherry on top.

He'll look to give the Knicks a crucial 3-0 lead on Monday.
