Wemby Reacts to Late Turnover in Video After Spurs' NBA Finals G2 Loss to Knicks, 'I Messed Up'

San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama discussed his turnover near the end of the team's 105-104 loss to the New York Knicks in Game 2 of the 2026 NBA Finals on Friday night.

"I threw that one away," Wembanyama said at his press conference after the loss. "I messed up. We didn't play great as a team. We needed to win that game. This game was ours. But at this point, it's done. Am I gonna regret it? Yes, of course. Am I gonna use that to fuel me and to fuel us next game? Absolutely."

With the score tied 104-104 and less than 15 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Wembanyama grabbed a rebound before his pass to Stephon Castle was stolen by Knicks star Jalen Brunson.

Brunson was fouled on the play and hit a free throw to give New York a one-point lead.

While Wembanyama scored 29 points and grabbed nine rebounds, he detailed what he needs to improve upon moving forward.

"I'm still very blurry and that's the whole problem," Wembanyama told reporters. "I need to have more poise, more control over the game. I'm not gonna go through the whole possessions but that's the general image."

The Spurs still had an opportunity to win at the buzzer following a frenetic sequence near the end of the game, but Wembanyama couldn't connect on a pull-up jumper to emerge victorious.

"In moments like this, results matter more than process. … I need to score," Wembanyama said, per ESPN's Ben Golliver.

San Antonio initially appeared to be bouncing back from its Game 1 loss to the Knicks, jumping out to a 34-25 lead at the end of the first quarter on Friday.

New York outscored the Spurs 31-18 in the second to gain a four-point advantage heading into halftime, though.

The Knicks continued to excel in the the quarter and held a 97-83 edge with six minutes left in the fourth, but San Antonio scored 14 unanswered points to tie the game.

Although New York held a brief one-possession lead shortly afterwards, the Spurs moved back in front after Wembanyama was fouled while connecting on a layup.

A mid-range jumper from Knicks star Jalen Brunson tied the game once again before Wembanyama's costly turnover.

It was a tough loss for the Spurs, who fell into a 2-0 series deficit with the NBA Finals now shifting to New York for a pair of contests.
