Shams Reveals When Wemby's Nike Shoe Contract Expires Amid Spurs' 2026 NBA Finals Run
San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama's contract with Nike expires in October, per ESPN's Shams Charania on the Cousins with Vince Carter & Tracy McGrady podcast.
Per Nicholas Vlahos of Sole Retriever, Nike signed Wembanyama in 2022, when he was still in France and playing for Metropolitans 92 of the LNB Pro A league. Nike and Wembanyama extended their deal for three years in 2023.
Of course, Wembanyama can simply extend his current contract with Nike before it runs out. If he becomes a sneaker free agent, though, he'll be highly sought after given his tremendous success and future potential in the league.
The 22-year-old Wembanyama has averaged 25.0 points, 11.5 rebounds and 3.1 blocks this season. He has led the NBA in blocks each of his three campaigns.
This past season, Wembanyama finished third in the NBA MVP voting and won the Defensive Player of the Year award for the first time.
Wembanyama is now trying to lead the Spurs to their first NBA championship since 2014. The Spurs trail the New York Knicks 1-0 in the best-of-seven NBA Finals, which goes to Game 2 on Friday at 8:30 p.m. ET.
