Myles Garrett, Rams Reportedly Rework Contract, Full Details Revealed After Browns Trade
The Los Angeles Rams reworked Myles Garrett's contract after acquiring the star edge rusher from the Cleveland Browns, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Thursday.
According to Rapoport, Garrett is still set to make $40 million per year over the course of his five-year agreement.
The Rams adjusted the deal to move "the vesting date of his guarantees back a few months," Rapoport reported.
Garrett was previously projected by Over the Cap to play next season under a $9.14 million cap hit in the first year of the contract he signed with the Browns in March 2025.
He was also set to receive $31.5 million in guaranteed salary next season, according to Over the Cap.
Garrett's salary for the 2026 season will rise to around $37 million after the contract adjustment, per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
According to Fowler, the Rams adjusted option and workout bonuses on the back end of the deal in order to move more compensation to the first year of the contract.
Garrett became the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL when he originally agreed to his $40 million average annual salary.
There are now five edge rushers who make more than that average salary in Will Anderson Jr., Micah Parsons, Aidan Hutchinson, T.J. Watt and Danielle Hunter, per Over the Cap.
The Browns' original deal with Garrett included $123 million in guarantees, per Rapoport and NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
The deal also included a no-trade clause, which ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Garrett waived in order to be shipped to the Rams. He will have the same no-trade clause in his Rams contract, per Schefter.
The Rams sent a trade package including linebacker Jared Verse and a 2027 first-rounder in order to acquire Garrett earlier this week.
The deal also included a conditional 2029 third-rounder that will become a first-round pick if Garrett is traded to another AFC North team.
Garrett led the NFL and broke the league's single-season record with 23 sacks in 17 games of his last campaign for the Browns.
The edge rusher, who is heading into his 10th NFL season with 125.5 total sacks, said in a recent interview with the Rams' J.B. Long his goal is to break the league's all-time record of 200 career sacks.
