Wemby Reacts to Fan Storming Court for Selfie in Viral Video from Knicks-Spurs NBA Finals Game 1
San Antonio Spurs superstar center Victor Wembanyama gave his take Wednesday night on a fan running onto the court and attempting to take a selfie with him during Game 1 of the NBA Finals against the New York Knicks.
Speaking to reporters following the Spurs' 105-95 loss, Wemby said, "I've never been in that situation. I didn't know how to act. It really surprised me, almost as much as that time [when] a bat crossed the court."
The fan was quickly grabbed and taken away by security guards, ending the incident in a matter of seconds.
However, the incident did cause a delay since the officials had to review the replay to determine which team had possession of the ball when play was halted.
Since no firm determination could be made, a jump ball ensued at center court, and the Spurs took possession after Wemby won it.
The Spurs were trailing 92-86 at that time, but they battled back to take a 95-94 lead with 2:16 remaining.
It was all Knicks from there, though, as they scored the final 11 points of the game to win by 10.
Despite leading the team with 26 points, Wembanyama characterized his game as a "bad" one due to the fact that he shot just 6-of-21 from the field.
Wemby also expressed his belief that the Spurs let Game 1 slip away, telling reporters, "I think we let that one go."
The Spurs and Knicks will be back in action Friday night when San Antonio hosts New York in Game 2.
