Andreeva Beats Kostyuk in French Open Women's Semifinal Bracket at Roland-Garros

Mike ChiariJun 4, 2026

No. 8 Mirra Andreeva defeated No. 15 Marta Kostyuk 6-1, 6-3, in the semifinals of the 2026 French Open at Stade Roland Garros in Paris on Thursday to advance to her first career Grand Slam singles final.

Although Andreeva and Kostyuk combined for only 29 winners in the match, Andreeva played the cleaner tennis with 22 unforced errors to Kostyuk's 34, which made all the difference.

Andreeva made quick work of Kostyuk in the first set, breaking her serve multiple times to take it 6-1:

After racing out to a 3-0 lead in the second set, Andreeva's lead was cut to 4-3 when Kostyuk broke her serve for the first and only time of the match.

However, Andreeva answered with a break of her own and finished out the set and the match on serve:

Andreeva entered the semis as the top seed remaining in what has been a wild and unpredictable women's draw.

The 19-year-old Russian essentially steamrolled her way to the semifinals, winning all but one of her first five matches in straight sets.

Kostyuk had a bit more arduous road, going to three sets in two of her matches, including her quarterfinal victory over No. 7 seed and fellow Ukrainian countrywoman Elina Svitolina.

The 23-year-old Kostyuk had never advanced past the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam tourney, and this year marks the first time she made it past the fourth round at Roland Garros.

Prior to Thursday, Andreeva and Kostyuk had only met twice before on the WTA circuit.

Both matchups occurred this year with Kostyuk beating Andreeva in the Brisbane quarterfinals on a hard court and the Madrid 1000 final on clay.

Those results could have given Kostyuk a mental edge, especially since the Madrid Open match occurred just one month ago.

However, Andreeva turned the tables on Thursday, and she is now a first-time Grand Slam singles finalist as a result.

Andreeva now awaits her French Open final opponent, which will be determined Thursday when No. 25 Diana Shnaider of Russia faces Polish qualifier Maja Chwalińska in the other semifinal.

The French Open final between Andreeva and the winner of Shnaider vs. Chwalińska will be played Saturday on Court Philippe Chatrier.
