Naomi Osaka Loses to Elena Rybakina, Updated US Open Women's Tennis Bracket After Monday Results
Two-time US Open champion Naomi Osaka's bid for a third title came to an end with a loss to Elena Rybakina in the fourth round of the 2026 tournament on Monday.
Osaka lost in straight sets by scores of 6-1 and 6-4.
Osaka survived a tough 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 win over Elise Mertens of Belgium in the third round on Saturday evening. The US Open champion in 2018 and 2020 reached the semifinals last year, though she hasn't made it past the quarterfinals of a major tournament in 2026.
Rybakina, the No. 2 seed and the reigning Australian Open champion, made it to the US Open quarterfinals for the first time in her career. The 27-year-old has won both the Australian Open and Wimbledon, and she's getting closer to adding another major title to her resume.
Rybakina will advance to face Qinwen Zheng in the quarterfinals on Wednesday. Zheng defeated No. 8 Iga Swiatek 7-5, 6-3 in an impressive upset victory in Monday's other fourth-round match.
Osaka, meanwhile, will go a fifth consecutive year without winning a major title. She missed the Australian Open due to an abdominal injury before reaching the fourth round of the French Open and the quarterfinal at Wimbledon.
