Roman Anthony Injury Update Provided by Red Sox, Latest Timeline on Star's Recovery
Boston Red Sox star Roman Anthony is facing another setback in his recovery from the finger injury that has sidelined him since May 4.
Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy said Anthony has been shut down from swinging after experiencing discomfort hitting off a tee Thursday, MassLive's Chris Cotillo reported Friday.
Anthony will be shut down "at least for a few days," according to Cotillo.

Breslow Talks Red Sox's Struggles
The Red Sox initially described Anthony's injury as a "wrist sprain." Anthony recently said he suffered "a partially torn ring finger ligament."
This marks the second time in two weeks Anthony has been shut down from swinging. He also took a break after experiencing soreness on May 18, per MassLive's Christopher Smith.
The injury originally necessitated a splint and rehab including a cortisone shot, Cotillo previously reported.
Anthony took dry swings without pain Tuesday for the first time since suffering his injury, per The Athletic's Jen McCaffrey.
The Red Sox planned to increase Anthony's swing volume and get him hitting off a tee by Thursday, per Gabrielle Star of the Boston Herald.
His recovery schedule will once again be adjusted after discomfort during that Thursday session.
"The fact of the matter still remains that he's got something in there and if there's discomfort, we just have to wait," Tracy said Friday, per Cotillo. "Did we want it to go quicker? Yeah, but we can't control the healing. If he's got discomfort, we've got to wait. Is it going to go longer than we had originally hoped and thought? Yeah, but that's just how it goes."
Tracy continued, per Cotillo: "It's not Roman's fault. None of that's anybody's fault. It's just that he got hurt and it's a nagging injury on a hand when he's trying to hit. We have to be patient with that and it's gonna take a little longer."
Anthony was limited to 71 games during his rookie season after suffering a season-ending left oblique strain.
He had appeared in 30 games this season while slashing .229/.354/.321 with 20 walks and seven extra-base hits prior to his latest injury.
The Red Sox are sitting in the basement of the AL East after an underwhelming 23-32 start to a season that has yet to turn around despite the dismissal of former manager Alex Cora and his coaching staff.
Boston will need some production outside of last week's AL Player of the Week Willson Contreras in order to cover for Anthony's continued absence during this weekend's road series against the Cleveland Guardians.
