Angel Reese Faces WNBA Suspension for 8th Technical Foul After Carla Leite Contact in Dream-Fire

Atlanta Dream star Angel Reese is on track for a one-game suspension pending potential appeal of her latest technical foul.

Reese was assessed her eighth tech of the season in the fourth quarter of the Dream's Friday night loss to the visiting Portland Fire.

She appeared to make contact with the Fire's Carla Leite before picking up the foul.

WNBA regulations require players who have received seven technical fouls pay a $1,500 fine and serve a one-game suspension for each additional tech.

Reese had earlier in the game tied Alyssa Thomas for the WNBA's single-season record for double-doubles with her 28th of the season.

She finished out the contest having shot 5-for-14 with 16 points and 16 rebounds.

Reese also reached the technical foul limit last season while playing for the Chicago Sky.

She served out that suspension in the fourth-to-last game of a season in which the Sky had already been eliminated from playoff contention.

The Dream are in a notably different position after clinching a playoff spot last Saturday following a win over the Phoenix Mercury in which Reese scored a career-high 31 points.

Atlanta is now in a tight race with multiple clubs including the Las Vegas Aces and Indiana Fever for better playoff seeding.

The Dream already took a step back in that race after conceding a Friday loss to the Fire while the Fever won their own matchup the same night against the Connecticut Sun.

The team may now also be without its top rebounder for Sunday's matchup against the top-seeded Minnesota Lynx. A squad led by Olivia Miles, Kayla McBride and Napheesa Collier will be taking on the Dream after putting together an WNBA-best 31-8 record.

The Dream will have to wait to see if the WNBA rescinds Reese's foul before Sunday's game against the No. 1 seed tips off at 3 p.m. ET in College Park.
