After entering the NFL as one of the most highly touted prospects in recent years, wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. surprisingly didn't last very long with the team that drafted him.

The Houston Texans acquired Harrison and a seventh-round pick from the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for a 2027 second-round pick and a sixth-round pick, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter.

The news was initially revealed by Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans after Sunday's victory over the Tennesee Titans.

The 2024 No. 4 pick spent just two-plus seasons in the desert before the Cardinals decided they'd had enough.

The circumstances behind his exit were a little odd. Schefter and Rapoport initially reported Arizona was finalizing a deal but didn't disclose any of the terms. Nobody knew where Harrison was actually going.

But the writing was at least on the wall as it related to his immediate future. A change of scenery was imminent.

A two-time unanimous All-American at Ohio State and the 2023 Fred Biletnikoff Award winner as the best receiver in the nation, Harrison was once viewed as an undeniable future superstar in the NFL. Unfortunately, the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Marvin Harrison has fallen well below expectations.

After a promising rookie season in which he finished with 62 catches for 885 yards and eight touchdowns, Harrison was limited to 12 games in his sophomore campaign due to various injuries and posted 41 catches for 608 yards and four scores. His regression continued even further to start the 2026 season.

In four games with Arizona, he had five receptions for 85 yards and one touchdown.

To make matters worse, Harrison's body language on the field this season raised questions about whether he was giving his full effort to the Cardinals, who have a 1-3 record and were known to be a rebuilding team this season. The 24-year-old frequently appeared to be moving slower than usual, and his route-running wasn't as precise as expected.

Harrison will now have the chance to prove his doubters wrong as he joins a Texans squad that has a 1-4 record this season. He should benefit from having C.J. Stroud throwing passes to him.

If Harrison brings the right mindset to Houston, he could quickly resurrect his career and return to being viewed as one of the most promising young receivers in the NFL.
