Kiyan Anthony's Weight Gain Detailed by Trainer in Video Ahead of Sophomore Syracuse Season
Syracuse guard Kiyan Anthony received praise from his renowned trainer, Chris Brickley, who noted his weight gain and progress this offseason as he gets ready for his sophomore campaign.
"A year ago today my guy was 172, now @kiyananthony is 195‼️ He's been working!! We focusing on angles, embracing contact, using your body, and of course being a knockdown shooter! This is the summer of separation! 🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁."
Anthony averaged 8.0 points in 18.7 minutes per game in his first year at Syracuse, which has entered a new era after hiring former Siena head coach and 'Cuse basketball legend Gerry McNamara to lead the Orange program.
McNamara, of course, was teammates with Anthony's father, Basketball Hall of Famer Carmelo Anthony, when the duo helped lead the 2002-03 Syracuse team to its lone national championship.
Anthony later had an incredible NBA career that featured 10 All-Star appearances and six All-NBA teams, and Brickley was his trainer near the end of his career.
Now his son is receiving help from Brickley, and it's clear Anthony is making great strides as he looks to make a great impact in year two. The talent is undeniably there, and it's certainly possible a great offseason of work plus McNamara's coaching gets the most out of his talents.
Anthony was a 4-star recruit out of Long Island Lutheran, and he ranked 34th overall on the 247Sports Composite list.
Anthony flashed at times during his freshman year (he averaged 17.3 PPG over his first three games, for example), but Syracuse as a whole struggled mightily en route to a disappointing 15-17 (6-12 ACC) campaign, and no one was immune to the downturn.
Now there's optimism in Syracuse, and Anthony can absolutely be part of a great turnaround in Central New York.
