Giannis Called 'Matchup Solution' for Wemby by NBA Exec amid Trade Rumors on Bucks Star

One of many reasons Giannis Antetokounmpo would be attractive to teams if the Milwaukee Bucks decide to trade the two-time NBA MVP is because of his unique ability to potentially present problems to Victor Wembanyama.

As one Western Conference executive told The Athletic's Sam Amick, Antetokounmpo's trade value could be enhanced because he is a "matchup solution" for the San Antonio Spurs superstar.

"Yeah, Giannis is a matchup solution for Wemby, so I could definitely see teams factoring that in when they're discussing trading for him," the executive said.

Antetokounmpo is certainly a unique physical specimen because of his height and length. He is listed on NBA.com at 6'11", while his wingspan has been measured at 7'3".

Even though those don't really come close to matching Wembanyama's 7'5" height and eight-foot wingspan, Antetokounmpo's long arms would at least allow him to potentially disrupt the Spurs star's shot in ways that few NBA players are capable of.

One problem is that Wembanyama doesn't put limits on where he shoots from in a way that can be hard to stop. What are you supposed to do when he pulls up from 28 feet, as was the case in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Thunder were praised for their defensive adjustments on Wembanyama in Game 2, though it was largely because Isaiah Hartenstein tested the officials by constantly grabbing, shoving and hacking him.

Even with that physical defensive strategy, Wembanyama still put up 21 points, 17 rebounds, six assists and four blocks. It's a lot better than the 41 points and 24 rebounds from the opener, but it's hard to truly contain him.

If there are teams, particularly in the Western Conference, that believe Antetokounmpo could be any sort of difference-maker against Wembanyama, it would be good news for the Bucks if they engage in serious trade talks.

The Bucks desperately need to find a way to build a roster foundation, with Antetokounmpo being the only major trade chip they have.

If Wembanyama is able to lead the Spurs past Oklahoma City and to an NBA title in just his third season, it could increase the urgency across the league this summer for teams to find a way to slow down his ascent to becoming the league's best player.
